For entrepreneurs in Umdoni, the journey towards growing their businesses received a significant boost as the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, together with the Mayor of Umdoni Local Municipality, Cllr Mbali Cele-Luthuli, handed over equipment to 40 successful beneficiaries of the Municipal Employment Initiative (MEI).

Following the MEI held yesterday in Dannhauser, today’s segment at Umzinto Town Hall in Umdoni Local Municipality in the Ugu District, placed much-needed resources directly into the hands of local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), providing entrepreneurs with practical tools to strengthen their businesses, improve productivity and unlock new economic opportunities.

For many small businesses, access to the right equipment can make the difference between simply sustaining operations and taking their businesses to the next level. Through the MEI, government continues to bridge this gap by providing targeted support that enables entrepreneurs to enhance their operations, expand their services and build more sustainable enterprises.

MEC Zondi emphasised the importance of investing in local entrepreneurs and creating an enabling environment in which small businesses can thrive, create employment and contribute meaningfully to local economic development. The handover further demonstrated the value of collaboration between provincial and local government in ensuring that economic opportunities and support reach communities across KwaZulu-Natal, including those outside major economic centres.
