TOURISM MONTH 2026 MEDIA LAUNCH

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, joined Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille, tourism industry leaders, stakeholders and members of the media at the Tourism Month 2026 Media Launch, held at the 9th Avenue Marina in Durban. “For KwaZulu-Natal, growing tourism in the digital era cannot simply be a conversation about technology. It must be about using technology to grow markets, open opportunities, support businesses and create jobs.” — MEC Rev. Musa Zondi

Tourism Month 2026 was officially launched under the theme, “Growing South Africa’s Tourism Sector in the Digital Era,” highlighting the growing importance of digital innovation in attracting visitors, promoting destinations and creating new opportunities across the tourism value chain.

In his remarks, MEC Zondi emphasised that KwaZulu-Natal already has a diverse and world-class tourism offering, from its coastline, wildlife and uKhahlamba Drakensberg to its battlefields, cultural and heritage experiences, major events, townships and rural destinations. He stressed the need to ensure that these experiences are increasingly visible, accessible and bookable in the digital space.

The launch reaffirmed KwaZulu-Natal’s commitment to building a connected, inclusive and competitive tourism sectorthat contributes meaningfully to economic growth, enterprise development and job creation.
