THE KZN ENERGY INDABA KICKS OFF ON A HIGH NOTE

Day 1 of the inaugural KZN Energy Indaba commenced today at the Thembela Venue in Richards Bay, bringing together government leaders, energy sector stakeholders, investors and industry specialists to deliberate on solutions aimed at strengthening energy security and unlocking investment opportunities across KwaZulu-Natal.

The two-day KZN Energy Indaba is hosted by the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Hon. Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, in collaboration with the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ). The gathering aims to create a strategic platform for dialogue, collaboration and practical action toward building a resilient and inclusive energy future for the province.

MEC Zondi, together with EDTEA’s Head of Department, Dr. Nkosenye Zulu, arrived early at the venue ahead of the opening proceedings of the Indaba. Delivering the scene-setting remarks and introducing the keynote speaker, MEC Zondi emphasised that the inaugural KZN Energy Indaba comes at a critical moment for the province. He noted that the gathering is intended to become a flagship forum where government, business and industry can collectively shape the province’s energy trajectory.

MEC Zondi highlighted that reliable and sustainable energy is fundamental not only to economic production but also to improving the quality of life for communities. Access to energy, he said, enables dignity, safety, education, healthcare and entrepreneurship. With those remarks, MEC Zondi officially opened the inaugural KZN Energy Indaba, urging delegates to engage with sincerity and collaborate toward building a sustainable energy future for KwaZulu-Natal.

The first day of the Indaba continues with high-level discussions, panel sessions and engagements aimed at advancing the province’s ambition to become a leading energy and industrial hub in South Africa.
