The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in partnership with Council for Geoscience today hosted a Technical Workshop for Potential Minerals in KwaZulu-Natal at the Garden Court Hotel uMhlanga, under eThekwini Metro Municipality.
The National Government of South Africa has identified mining industry as one of the economic drivers in the country. This is evidenced by the fact that the National Development Plan (NDP) singles out mining as one of the six priority sectors that have the potential to take our economy to new heights of growth.
The mining industry is a major supplier to economies worldwide as well as to the South Africa's economy. It supplies the resources needed by most economic sectors and generates infrastructure, investment, jobs, and government income.
The workshop today provides a crucial platform for investigating KwaZulu-Natal's unrealised mineral potential, talking about sustainable practices, encouraging technical innovation, and growth in the mining industry in the area.
The presentations came from, the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, the Council for Geoscience, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, the Department of Mineral Resources & Energy, Moses Kotane Research Institute, uMzinyathi Economic Development Agency, and National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC).
