REIGNITING BUSINESS GROWTH

Today, 06 June 2025, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, paid a significant visit to the now-closed Gelvenor Africa facility in Hammarsdale.

Once a leading force in the textile industry, Gelvenor Africa’s closure has sparked urgent calls for government intervention to restore operations and reinvigorate the local economy. Joining MEC Zondi were the President and executive members of NAFCOC (National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry), whose presence highlighted the importance of strong public-private partnerships in fostering economic recovery and growth.

The MEC’s visit marks a crucial step toward revitalising the textile sector in KZN, reflecting the provincial government’s commitment to supporting struggling businesses. Stakeholders closed the meeting with renewed hope for rebuilding Gelvenor Africa and restoring its role as a key economic contributor in the province. This collaboration highlights a shared commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, supporting entrepreneurship, and identifying strategic interventions that can reignite industry and stimulate job creation.

Today’s engagement sets a positive tone for future efforts aimed at sustainable development, job creation, and community upliftment, demonstrating that meaningful progress is possible through collective action.
