The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, in partnership with its Entity, the Moses Kotane Research Institute, today 20 May 2026, hosted the Provincial Tourism Master Plan Workshop in Richards Bay, bringing together stakeholders from the Zululand, uMkhanyakude and King Cetshwayo District Municipalities.
The workshop served as an important platform for stakeholders to provide valuable inputs, insights and recommendations on the draft Tourism Master Plan that will guide and strengthen the tourism sector in KwaZulu-Natal over the next five to ten years.Discussions focused on reviewing progress made since the implementation of the previous Tourism Master Plan, identifying emerging opportunities within the sector, and aligning the revised strategy with current provincial, national and global tourism trends.
The consultative process seeks to ensure that the revised Tourism Master Plan remains inclusive, practical and responsive to the needs of communities and industry stakeholders across the province. Tourism continues to play a significant role in driving economic growth, attracting investment, creating employment opportunities and supporting sustainable community development.
