Today, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), Rev. Musa Zondi, together with the Head of Department, Dr. Nkosenye Zulu, attended the Operation Sukuma Sakhe/District Development Model (OSS/DDM) Cabinet Day led by the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Mr. Thamsanqa Ntuli. As part of the OSS/DDM outreach programme, the Premier, accompanied by Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Executive Council, engaged directly with communities in different parts of uMkhanyakude District.
MEC Zondi began his day with a War Room session at Phumlani Community Hall in Ward 5 of the Big 5 Hlabisa Local Municipality, where he listened to the concerns and priorities raised by the councillor. Reports from local leaders highlighted service delivery challenges and socio-economic issues affecting their communities, while government officials shared updates on interventions currently underway to address these matters.
MEC Zondi then conducted an oversight visit to the Community Nutrition Centre and the newly constructed Motor Licensing Centre, adjacent to the Big 5 Hlabisa Local Municipality offices. These projects aim to strengthen social support services and improve access to essential government services for local residents.Meanwhile, in his capacity as the Zululand District HOD Champion, Dr. Zulu joined the OSS/DDM delegation in KwaNibela, Ward 4.
The Cabinet Day outreach programme concluded with an Imbizo at Mqombokazi Sports Field in Ward 2, Hluhluwe, where Premier Ntuli and MECs provided feedback on issues raised and outlined government’s plans to accelerate development and improve service delivery across the district.EDTEA entities also proudly supported the event with exhibitions showcasing the services they offer, providing a direct information-sharing platform to the people of uMkhanyakude District.
