MEC Rev. Musa Zondi Receives Comprehensive Induction from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife

The MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, today participated in an induction session with one of the department's key entities, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. The session, led board chairperson Ms. Lydia Johnson and by Ezemvelo CEO Mr. Sihle Mkhize, offered a detailed overview of the organization’s operations, achievements, and the challenges it faces in safeguarding KwaZulu-Natal’s rich biodiversity.

The presentation highlighted the critical interventions required from the department to address pressing issues face by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

As part of the induction, MEC Zondi conducted an aerial inspection via helicopter, visiting critical areas that form the backbone of Ezemvelo’s conservation efforts. The tour included the HiP Smart Fence, non-fenced zones in KwaMdletshe, and poaching hotspots such as Makhamisa, Masinda, and Mbuzane.

The visit reflects the MEC’s proactive approach to understanding and addressing the challenges faced by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, ensuring that the department provides targeted support to strengthen conservation initiatives and promote sustainable environmental management in the province.
