Media Launch for Africa Travel Indaba 2026

Durban marked a significant moment for Africa’s tourism sector today, Monday, 4 May 2026, as the official media launch of Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 took place at the Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal. The launch, led by Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille, signaled the start of preparations for one of the continent’s premier travel trade events.

Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 will be hosted from 11–14 May 2026 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, reaffirming Durban’s role as a leading destination for global tourism events. The media launch brought together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and government representatives to align on the vision and objectives of the upcoming trade show.

In her keynote address, Minister de Lille introduced the theme “Unlimited Africa: Growing Africa through the Tourism Economy,” we reaffirm our commitment to positioning Africa as a leading global destination. Through strong partnerships, especially with the private sector, we aim to unlock travel opportunities across the continent and showcase Africa’s unique offerings.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Musa Zondi, highlighted the broader economic significance of the Indaba. He noted that the event is more than a showcase it is a powerful economic driver that supports job creation, stimulates small businesses, and contributes to multiple sectors linked to tourism. Past editions have delivered strong economic returns, including increased hotel occupancy and substantial revenue generation for the province.

The province plans to use the Indaba platform to showcase its diverse tourism offerings, ranging from cultural heritage and wildlife to scenic travel routes and experiential tourism. A strong emphasis has been placed on inclusivity, with SMMEs, youth ambassadors, and creatives playing a central role in this year’s programme. This approach aims to ensure that the benefits of tourism are widely shared while developing skills and opening opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs.

The purpose of the media launch was not only to officially announce the event but also to rally stakeholders behind a shared goal: advancing Africa’s tourism economy. Through collaboration, innovation, and strategic investment, Africa’s Travel Indaba continues to position itself as a catalyst for growth across the continent.As Durban prepares to host the 2026 edition, the message from today’s launch is clear Africa’s tourism future is bold, inclusive, and full of opportunity.
