The Master Shisanyama Upskilling Programme got underway in earnest today with the training of Shisanyama owners, business managers and braai masters. The programme, initiated by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, seeks to professionalize the Shisanyama sector which has a significant role to play in developing and growing rural and township tourism. The programme is being implemented in partnership with the only professional body governing the culinary services sector, the South African Chefs Association.

The programme is being piloted in four districts namely eThekwini, Ilembe, Ugu and Umgungundlovu District Municipalities.
