MEC ZONDI WELCOMES INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS TO KZN FOR APSS 2026, HIGHLIGHTING SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

The 3rd International Congress of the African Phytomedicine Scientific Society (APSS 2026) officially commenced today at The Capital Zimbali Resort in KwaZulu-Natal, bringing together local and international delegates, researchers and experts to advance scientific knowledge and innovation in phytomedicine.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, delivered the keynote address, welcoming delegates on behalf of the Provincial Government and highlighting the importance of international collaboration.

“On behalf of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, I extend our warmest greetings to all delegates participating in this important gathering. We are particularly pleased to welcome international delegates who have travelled to our shores to share their knowledge, research and expertise,” said MEC Zondi.

Beyond its scientific significance, APSS 2026 presents an important economic opportunity for the province. The conference is expected to stimulate local economic activity through increased demand for accommodation, restaurants, transport and other tourism-related services, while supporting local businesses and creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, investment and partnerships in the medicinal plant and natural products industries.

Hosting international conferences of this calibre reinforces KwaZulu-Natal’s position as a destination for business events, research collaboration and investment, contributing to tourism growth, enterprise development and job creation.
