The MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, joined Mayor of eThekwini, Councillor Cyril Xaba, dignitaries, business leaders, and community representatives at the official launch and sod turning of the Insimbi Ridge Catalytic Project in Cato Ridge on 10 November 2025.
The Insimbi Ridge Logistics Precinct marks a major milestone in KwaZulu-Natal’s industrial renewal transforming 500 hectares of former industrial land into one of South Africa’s first privately funded inland logistics hubs. In his address, MEC Zondi commended the partnership between the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, Assore SA PropCo, Rail Development Corporation, and FPT Group, describing the initiative as “a working model for progress and a testament to the power of collaboration.”
He highlighted that the project embodies inclusive and sustainable growth, aligning with the province’s Investment Strategy 2030 and Strategic Integrated Project 2 (SIP 2) to modernise freight infrastructure. The development is expected to attract billions in private investment and create up to 10,000 jobs, prioritising local labour and small business participation within the KwaXimba Traditional Council area.
He further noted that the project’s strong environmental governance and responsible redevelopment of the former Cato Ridge Works site demonstrate the province’s commitment to sustainable industrialisation. Concluding his remarks, MEC Zondi emphasised: “Every container that moves more efficiently through this corridor is not just cargo it is confidence. It is trust regained in KwaZulu-Natal’s capacity to deliver.”
The launch of the Insimbi Ridge Catalytic Project sends a clear message that KwaZulu-Natal is open for business, building with purpose, and ready to drive industrial excellence and shared prosperity.
