Today, on 06 May 2025, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, is visiting uMfolozi Local Municipality to hand over market stalls and other essential equipment to informal traders in the KwaMbonambi CBD.
The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, under the leadership of MEC, Rev. Musa Zondi, allocated R3 million in grant funding through the Municipal Infrastructure for Informal Economy Initiative (MIIE) to uMfolozi Local Municipality for the development of the KwaMbonambi Market Stalls. MEC Zondi officially opened the project, which consists of 18 stalls (8 closed and 10 open stalls) within the KwaMbonambi CBD precinct, directly located within the bus and taxi rank site.
This initiative highlights EDTEA’s unwavering commitment to empowering informal enterprises as part of its broader efforts to stimulate sustainable small businesses and promote inclusive economic growth in KwaZulu-Natal.
