Today, 22 May 2025, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, addressed dynamic young leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and civil society trailblazers from across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond who are delegates at this year's Junior Chamber International Africa and the Middle East Conference (AMEC).

Convening in Durban under the theme "Cultivating Resilient and Innovative Leaders," the conference serves as a global platform for leaders, entrepreneurs, partners, and stakeholders to unite, combining their energy and expertise to drive meaningful change in their communities and the world. Speaking at the conference, MEC Zondi set the tone by welcoming delegates to the warm city of eThekwini, highlighting KwaZulu-Natal’s renowned hospitality and business-friendly environment.

"At the beginning of the 7th administration, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government embarked on an ambitious plan to turn KZN into a construction site, aiming to drive investment and boost tourism. This strategic initiative underscores the province's commitment to economic growth and development," he stated. He further emphasised KwaZulu-Natal’s strategic positioning as a gateway to the world, leveraging special economic zones such as the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) and the N3 carriageway to facilitate seamless trade and investment opportunities.

Expanding on his remarks, MEC Zondi reiterated KZN’s role as a premier investment destination, showcasing the province’s strategic initiatives to propel economic growth and development. "The province’s economic strategy focuses on catalytic projects that drive growth, job creation, and transformation, with key sectors including energy, industrialization, tourism infrastructure, and the film and creative economy," he added. MEC Zondi concluded by reaffirming KwaZulu-Natal’s commitment to cultivating resilient and innovative leaders, driving sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and attracting global investment.
