MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, addressed the Provincial Tourism and Audio-Visual Committee (PTAC) meeting at Okhahlamba Local Municipality, emphasizing tourism’s role in driving economic growth and social transformation in KwaZulu-Natal.
In his remarks, the MEC highlighted tourism as a critical driver of job creation, particularly for youth and women, and underscored the importance of partnerships with local governments and the private sector. He stressed the need to support SMMEs in tourism and audio-visual industries, ensuring rural communities also benefit from these initiatives.
He also called for infrastructure development to strengthen tourism in rural areas and emphasized the growth potential of the audio-visual sector in boosting cultural tourism. The MEC urged local municipalities to align their strategies with provincial goals and encouraged collaboration to achieve tangible results, positioning KwaZulu-Natal as a leading global tourism destination.
