KZNEDTEA COMMEMORATES WETLANDS AND WORLD WATER DAY

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs through its Environmental Management Office, today commemorated the Wetlands and World Water Day in ward 07 of Ntabamhlophe under Inkosi Langalibalele local municipality today.

The day’s activities commenced with a clean up campaign with the aim to improve the environment by removing litter, debris, and pollutants from public spaces, while promoting community pride and raising awareness about waste management.

By educating people about proper waste disposal, recycling, and reducing waste, these campaigns support public health and safety, and enhance the appearance of neighborhoods, making them more attractive to visitors and supporting local businesses.

The clean up campaign was followed by a tree planting ceremony at Escourt Senior Secondary School. This was to encourage tree planting as tree planting is important for numerous reasons, including environmental benefits such as absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, which helps combat climate change.

A community engagement concluded the day’s activities with the purpose to further emphasize saving our planet by cleaning the areas we live in and using water sparingly.
