Today, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, together with the Chairperson of the Board of KZN Tourism and Film, Dr. Sibusiso Ndebele, chaired the Provincial Tourism and Audio-Visual Committee (PTAC) meeting in Dundee, in the Endumeni Local Municipality.
The session brought together key industry players and stakeholders to shape the future of KwaZulu-Natal’s tourism and creative economy. The day began with a presentation on the revised KwaZulu-Natal Economic Recovery Plan, setting the tone for a forward-looking discussion on sustainable growth. This was followed by an in-depth look at the province’s destination promotion and marketing strategy, reaffirming KZN’s commitment to positioning itself as a premier travel destination.
Momentum continued with updates on the establishment of the Culture, Heritage, Investment, and Tourism (CHIT) Committee - an initiative aimed at deepening integration across sectors. Air access and route development also featured prominently, as discussions unpacked progress in expanding regional connectivity to unlock new tourism and investment opportunities.
A key highlight of the meeting was the progress report on the Drakensberg Cable Car Project. The report outlined achievements to date, remaining specialist studies and the resources needed to advance the project. The presentation sparked productive dialogue on how to accelerate implementation while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Representatives from various municipalities contributed valuable updates and insights during the open-floor session, paving the way for a collaborative approach moving forward.The meeting concluded with a summary of resolutions and a shared commitment to driving impactful tourism development across the province.
