KZN JOBS AND SKILLS SUMMIT SETS A BOLD ACTION-ORIENTED TONE

Day one of the KwaZulu-Natal Jobs and Skills Summit, held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, laid a strong foundation for decisive action in addressing the province’s unemployment crisis and skills mismatch. Led by KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli and MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev Musa Zondi, the summit has convened key stakeholders committed to advancing inclusive economic growth and job creation.

Setting the scene, MEC Rev Zondi called for urgent, coordinated action and stronger partnerships across sectors. “This summit must mark a turning point where we move from fragmented efforts to a unified approach that places jobs and livelihoods at the centre of economic development,” he said, stressing that growth must translate into tangible opportunities.

In his keynote address, KZN Premier Ntuli emphasised the need for practical, measurable outcomes. “We are gathered here not only to reflect, but to resolve. The people of KwaZulu-Natal expect interventions that will restore dignity through work and opportunity,” he stated. He further highlighted the importance of aligning education with labour market needs, particularly through strengthened Work-Based Learning. As discussions continue, day one has signalled a clear, collective resolve to drive implementation and build a more inclusive and resilient economic future for KwaZulu-Natal.
