The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (KZNEDTEA) today hosted the Business Pledge Signing Ceremony at Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel and Convention Centre, marking a significant step towards strengthening a culture of compliance and ethical business practices in the province.
The initiative encourages businesses to formally commit to operating within regulatory frameworks, promoting fair trade, consumer protection and sustainable economic growth. By fostering stronger collaboration between government and the private sector, the pledge seeks to create a more transparent and supportive business environment that empowers enterprises to thrive while contributing to the broader economic development of KwaZulu-Natal.
For businesses, the pledge presents an opportunity to build credibility, improve regulatory awareness, and strengthen partnerships with government institutions - ultimately enhancing investor confidence and supporting inclusive economic participation across the province.
The event was addressed by EDTEA’s Head of Department, Dr. Nkosenye Zulu, alongside Ms. Palesa Chili, CEO of the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as renowned economist and Chairperson of the KZN Consumer Tribunal, Dr. Bonke Dumisa, who joined stakeholders from across the business community in affirming their commitment to a compliant and growth-oriented business ecosystem in KwaZulu-Natal.
