Today, The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs is hosting the International coastal cleanup at Alkantstrand Beach,umhlathuze Local Municipality under King Cetshwayo District Municipality.

The Mandate of Environmental Management is derived from Section 24 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa which states:" Everyone has a right to an environment that is nit harmful to their health and well being and to have the environment protected for the benefit of the present and future generations.

During the International coastal cleanup we remove debris and rubbish from shorelines, waterways and the oceans, including inland lakes, rivers, streams and underwater sites in lakes.

The main aim of this initiative is to make a positive change, promote the prevention of Coastal pollution, and to create public awareness about the negative impacts of coastal pollution.
