HOD FOR EDTEA ATTENDS COMRADES MARATHON WINNERS BREAKFAST

The Head of Department for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Dr. Nkosenye Zulu, attended the Comrades Marathon Winners’ Breakfast, a celebration honouring the remarkable achievements of the athletes who conquered one of the world’s most iconic ultra-marathons. The event, held in Durban this morning, celebrated the ultimate human spirit of the individuals who run not only with their legs, but also with their hearts, demonstrating extraordinary endurance, determination and resilience.

Defending champion Gerda Steyn once again showcased her dominance in the women’s race, comfortably retaining her Comrades Marathon crown. Steyn delivered another outstanding performance, crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 5 hours and 45 minutes, further cementing her legacy as one of the country’s greatest distance runners. In the men’s race, George Kusche stormed to victory for Nedbank Running Club, producing a superb run to claim the coveted title in a winning time of 5 hours and 16 minutes.

Dr. Zulu congratulated the champions and all participants on their dedication and perseverance, noting that the Comrades Marathon continues to inspire South Africans and visitors alike, while showcasing KwaZulu-Natal as a premier destination for sport tourism and major events. The Winners’ Breakfast served as a fitting tribute to the athletes whose achievements embody excellence, courage, and the unifying power of sport.
