The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Musa Zondi, today officially launches and hands over the KwaMajomela Small Scale Manufacturing and Value Add Centre, marking a significant step in advancing inclusive enterprise development and accelerating rural industrialisation.

Located in KwaMajomela in Nongoma, the Centre is unveiled in the presence of the Mayor of Zululand District, Cllr Michael Khumalo, alongside leadership from the Zululand District Municipality and Nongoma Local Municipality. The launch signals the operational readiness of a strategic economic infrastructure project designed to empower local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and traders.

The facility forms part of the Department’s Municipal Support Programmes aimed at stimulating local economic development and strengthening value addition at community level. By providing dedicated space for small-scale manufacturing, processing and enterprise development, the Centre creates an enabling environment for entrepreneurs to improve productivity, enhance product quality and access sustainable market opportunities.

As part of the launch programme, the MEC lead a walkabout of the newly established Centre, engaging directly with traders and small-scale manufacturers who will operate from the facility. The interaction offers firsthand insight into their businesses and reinforces government’s commitment to building resilient, community-based enterprises.

The launch of the KwaMajomela Small Scale Manufacturing and Value Add Centre represents a tangible investment in local economic empowerment, positioning Nongoma as a growing hub for rural enterprise and inclusive growth in KwaZulu-Natal.
