Today, 12 November 2024, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) handed over important equipment to small businesses in uMthwalume, uMzumbe Local Municipality. The event also included the opening of the KwaSmith infrastructure project.

Through the Municipal Employment Initiative (MEI), 11 SMMEs received support, while 12 informal traders benefited from the KwaSmith project. The goal of these initiatives is to create jobs and support local businesses, especially in rural and township areas.

The businesses helped include those in agriculture, catering, hospitality, landscaping, clothing and textiles, bakery, and laundry services. By providing these resources, the project aims to boost the local economy and improve the livelihoods of community members.
