Today, 06 March 2026, the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Economic Operations Unit, together with the KZN Tourism and Film Authority and the Harry Gwala Development Agency, hosted a Film and Television Masterclass at Premier Resort Sani Pass in the Harry Gwala District.
The masterclass aimed to equip emerging and aspiring filmmakers with practical knowledge and industry insights to strengthen their participation in the film and television sector. The programme forms part of ongoing efforts to support industry transformation and to create opportunities for local creatives within the province.
During the session, experienced filmmakers and industry professionals shared valuable expertise on various aspects of film production, including how to run a successful production, building and managing a production studio, understanding the role of producers, and filming for long-form productions, commercials, and television. Participants were also guided on key considerations when filming in KwaZulu-Natal locations.
The programme is beneficial to upcoming filmmakers as it provides mentorship, skills development, and networking opportunities with industry experts. This exposure helps participants gain a deeper understanding of the film and television industry, while also encouraging them to develop sustainable careers and contribute to the growth of the creative economy in the province.
