ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE'S OVERSIGHT VISIT TO DUBE TRADEPORT

Today, 29 August 2025, the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), led by MEC Rev. Musa Zondi, engaged with the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Economic Development and Tourism at Dube TradePort, situated at King Shaka International Airport in the eThekwini Metro.

The meeting commenced with a presentation of EDTEA's First Quarter Report for the 2025/2026 financial year, which gave committee members and the departmental delegation an opportunity to reflect on both achievements and challenges. Furthermore, the department outlined strategies aimed at expediting service delivery in pursuit of inclusive and transformative economic and tourism development.

The committee also conducted an oversight visit to Dube TradePort as part of its mandate to see firsthand the impactful investment initiatives being implemented within this Special Economic Zone, and to assess the contribution to KwaZulu-Natal’s provincial economic growth. "Today’s session, combined with the oversight here at Dube TradePort, provides an important platform to reflect not only on numbers, but also on the tangible outcomes that change lives," said MEC Zondi.

Committee members commended EDTEA, Dube TradePort and affected stakeholders for ensuring that the public entity continuously strives to fulfill its commitment to enhancing manufacturing competitiveness while advancing industrial and commercial development. MEC Zondi also reaffirmed EDTEA's unwavering commitment to advancing its core priorities: enterprise support, industrial development, tourism growth as well as strengthening the resilience of township and rural economies. "These remain at the heart of our agenda," he said.
