Today, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, through its Consumer Compliance Unit, conducted a comprehensive business inspection in the bustling Durban CBD. This operation was carried out in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS), eThekwini Metro, the Health Unit, and Business Licensing to ensure businesses comply with consumer safety and health regulations.
The inspection focused on food safety and the quality of goods being sold in the area. Disturbingly, expired items such as polony and baby food were discovered during the operation. Additionally, counterfeit cigarettes were confiscated, raising serious concerns about consumer safety and illegal trading practices.
The joint initiative aims to safeguard public health, protect consumers from harmful products, and uphold the integrity of local business operations. Authorities have emphasized the importance of compliance and will continue efforts to ensure that businesses meet the required standards.
