Today, 22 September 2024, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, together with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, collaborated with the National Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment, represented by Deputy Minister Mr. Narend Singh, to commemorate World Rhino Day at Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park.
This annual event was celebrated under the theme "Challenges and Hope for the Future." Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has been working with various stakeholders to conserve the endangered species and has dehorned a total of 975 rhinos so far.
During the commemoration, Deputy Minister Singh emphasised the importance of the day, stating, “Hundreds of rhinos have been carelessly murdered by greedy and unscrupulous individuals, and there is a need to protect and preserve these species for future generations.” He also added that all rhino poachers must face the full might of the law.
