Africa’s Travel Indaba trade floor was officially opened for business today, 13 May 2025, by South African Deputy President Mr. Paul Mashatile at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister of Tourism, Ms. Patricia de Lille, alongside fellow tourism ministers from neighbouring African countries, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr. Thami Ntuli; the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi; members of the legislature, as well as eThekwini Metro's Mayor, Cllr. Cyril Xaba.

The G20 Tourism Working Group delegates also participated in today's activities, exploring the trade floor to experience a diverse range of offerings from hundreds of exhibitors, including government institutions, private businesses, and community organisations.

The purpose of the Indaba is to bring together industry stakeholders, policymakers, and tourism professionals to share knowledge, showcase innovative products, and forge partnerships that can drive the growth in the African continent. By providing a platform for networking, deal-making, and learning, the Indaba aims to unlock new opportunities for tourism development, investment, and job creation across Africa

In his opening address, Deputy President Mashatile emphasised the importance of showcasing Africa's rich history, customs, and natural beauties to the world. "When you explore Africa's vast regions and different civilizations, you will surely be met by a rich history, customs, and natural beauties that demonstrate the interconnection of this great continent. From the ancient civilizations that thrived along the Nile River to the vivid cultures that cover the streets of busy cities today, Africa is a land full of stories that are just waiting to be told," he said

The 2025 theme, "Unlimited Africa," highlights the importance of sustainable tourism and strategic collaborations to drive African tourism growth. Deputy President Mashatile added: "We must work together to unlock the full potential of African tourism, promoting sustainable practices and responsible travel that benefits local communities and preserves our natural heritage." By focusing on sustainable tourism practices, innovative product development, and collaborative partnerships, the Indaba aims to achieve the following key objectives:
