2026 SAFPA INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION GALA DINNER

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, delivered a keynote address at this evening's closing gala dinner of the 2026 South African Funeral Practitioners Association (SAFPA) International Convention. Held at the iconic the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC in Durban, the event marked the successful conclusion of a landmark gathering for the funeral services industry.

The convention brought together funeral practitioners, policymakers, regulators, suppliers, business leaders and international delegates from across Africa and beyond to engage on the future of the sector. Delivering the keynote address, MEC Zondi, congratulated SAFPA leadership, under its president, Dr. Nomfundo Mcoyi-Zondo, for hosting a successful and impactful inaugural international convention.

He also commended the organisation for creating a platform that encouraged collaboration, knowledge sharing and partnerships that will help shape the future of funeral services across the continent. The MEC highlighted the important role the funeral services industry plays in supporting communities while contributing meaningfully to economic growth and job creation.

He noted that the sector sustains thousands of livelihoods through related value chains, including small businesses, manufacturing, transport and technology services. He further commended SAFPA for promoting ethical business practices, professionalising the industry and empowering practitioners. The convention concluded on a high note, with delegates reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation, advancing innovation and building a more sustainable and dignified funeral services sector for future generations.
