16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND COMMEMORATION OF THE WORLD AIDS DAY
Today, 08 December 2022, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Siboniso Duma, leads a peaceful march in support of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and commemoration of the World AIDS Day programme at Indlebe Zembuzi Sports Field, Ward 12 under uMshwathi LM.
The day began with a silent march, which the MEC, along with GBVF activists, men and women, NGOs, pastors, Mayors and other business leaders took part in. The MEC also handed over business starter packs to 12 women within the UMshwathi Municipality who have been affected by the Gender Based Violence. The business starter packs will be used as a means to ensure that the women affected by the GBV start their own businesses and sustain themselves, which will decrease the dependency to their counter parts who in return use their poverty status to abuse them.
