OVERSIGHT VISITS

Recently, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Siboniso Duma, undertook a site tour to inspect some of the beneficiaries of the first phase of Operation Vula Fund. In particular, the MEC visited two recycling projects in Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality under Ugu District, which had received support from EDTEA.

The first project visited by MEC Duma is called Thulikacebo. It is a black-owned business that has more than five permanent employees and has been assisted by a Dyna Truck, a Van, and a Trailer. The business has experienced growth and now generates over R2 million in annual turnover. Notably, Thulikacebo counts Coca-Cola among its clients.

In addition, MEC Duma also visited the Natal Blind Society, which is owned by a disabled individual and employs six people. Two of its employees are blind and disabled. The Natal Blind Society received funding of R1.2 million from EDTEA through the Operation Vula Fund, along with a bakkie and a bailer machine for recycling. As a result of the support, the business now generates a turnover of R500 000 per annum, and it boasts clients such as Spar in Margate and KFC in Port Shepstone
