2023/24 BUDGET POLICY SPEECH DELIVERED TO THE KWAZULU-NATAL PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE BY MEC FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, TOURISM AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS, MR SIBONISO DUMA ON 18 APRIL 2023.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government tabled the departmental budgets in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, which prioritized the implementation of the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan in the province.

Through the budget votes, the departments gave a clear indication of how they will fast track service delivery to the people while implementing the key priorities as detailed by the Premier during the State of the Province Address.

The budget votes that were tabled on Tuesday included those from the Office of the Premier and the Departments of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube tabled the Office of the Premier's Budget Policy Speech and provided pertinent updates at 11h40. Focused on outlining the budget allocations for key priorities for the province and providing support to the Zulu Royal Household.

The Premier's Budget Policy Speech was then followed by the Budget Policy Speech for the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs under the leadership of MEC Siboniso Duma at 14h30 at the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

MEC Duma outlined the department's interventions as part of economic recalibration, reconstruction, and recovery, which target increasing the levels of investment in priority sectors, infrastructure development, export development, and support to SMMEs.

 

The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs was allocated just over R3,4 Billion for the 2023/24 financial year.
