MEC Pillay Pays Visit To Detergents Shared Production Facility Under Construction In KwaMashu

The construction of the KwaMashu Shared Production Facility for chemicals and detergents, is expected to be completed in the next few weeks. This was the assurance given to MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Ravi Pillay, during a site visit to the facility.

The facility is being developed to support small enterprises involved in the manufacturing of detergents and cosmetics. It is a response to the barriers of entry to the chemicals industry.

The detergents industry is highly regulated and many small businesses operating in this space have this and other factors such as the lack of laboratory services and manufacturing facilities as the main hindrance.

The facility will provide training and production support to the small businesses operating in this space. The facility will be based at the KwaMashu Motor Park, a building owned by Ithala Development Finance.
