YOUR CHILD IS MY CHILD, MY CHILD IS YOUR CHILD

MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, MEC Siboniso Duma remarked today after handing over clothes and school uniforms to 198 pupils in Pietermaritzburg.

“This is a campaign of nation building. We took this campaign to Noshezi, under Umsunduzi local Municipality.”

Learners spend a bigger part of their days with teachers at school where they should be nurtured to become future learners.

Importantly, a high level of concentration is excepted from them - straight from early childhood development, primary, secondary and high school up to tertiary.

That is why all efforts should be made to ensure that they are well fed with nutritious food and comfortable uniforms.

Unfortunately some learners come from poor families who live below the poverty line. That is why we brought in SASSA as a vehicle for the protection of vulnerable members of society.

Importantly, our donation of clothes and uniforms today should be viewed within the context of our efforts aimed at ensuring that no learner feels neglected.

Together with UMgungundlovu District Mayor Cllr Mzimkhulu Thebolla and Mayor of Umsunduzi Local Municipality Cllr Mzi Zuma we proclaimed: “My Child is your Child, Your Child is My Child.”

We wish to point out that without the parents doing their part, teachers cannot succeed in turning the learners into valuable soldiers in this great war to turn ours into the greatest country in the world.

We also emphasise that communities need to understand that schools belong to them more than they do to government.

It is therefore up to communities to protect the resources that we, as government, pour into schools.

The safety and security of teachers, schoolchildren, and property are also the responsibility of communities.
