OPERATION SUKUMA SAKHE CABINET DAY – AMAJUBA DISTRICT

The Executive Council of the Government of KwaZulu-Natal hosted the Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) Cabinet Day at Amajuba District Municipality on Tuesday, 13 June 2023.

This innovative and ground-breaking OSS programme, which started in KZN and has now been studied for adoption by other provinces, is aimed at strengthening public participation while enabling Government to assess progress in service delivery. It also serves as a platform to monitor, evaluate, and fast-track the implementation of various services and programmes to improve the lives of communities in various wards.

The challenges affecting residents in Amajuba District include a decline in business activity as a result of Covid-19, load shedding, water challenges, unemployment and crime related issues, to alcohol abuse, drugs and gang-related violence.

As part of Cabinet OSS, the Leader of Government Business and MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr. Siboniso Duma kicked started the day with an oversight visit to Cooper Primary School in Dannhauser Municipality.

Cooper Primary School is situated in the deep rural area of Cooper Farm, it was established in 1941, currently the school has a total of 228 learners.

 MEC Duma assured the school principal that uniforms will be provided to learners in need, furthermore the school will be provided with sports gear.

MEC Duma then proceeded to Emfundweni Clinic, situated in ward 13 opposite Emfundweni High School.

The MEC conducted an over site visit at the clinic that services community members of ward 13 and parts of ward 11.

 MEC Duma, applauded the stellar work done by the staff at the clinic and concluded by thanking them for working tirelessly in ensuring that the community gets the best services.

 The day’s activities were concluded by a community engagement at the Fairbreeze Sportsfield in ward 13 where the MEC responded to bottlenecks that frustrate service delivery to the communities.
