KWAZULU-NATAL LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TECHNICAL SUMMIT

Today, The KwaZulu-Natal Leader of Government Business and MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Siboniso Duma is currently leading the KZN Local Economic Development Technical Summit under the theme “Transforming the Local Economic Outlook” at Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel and Conventional Centre.

The Summit provides a strategic platform to solicit inputs into the departmental annual performance planning, project selection and budget allocation for the 2024/2025 financial year. It is envisaged that the Summit will provide a platform for municipalities to provide feedback and perspectives on how the department can better allocate scarce fiscal resources to address spatial inequality in levels of economic development in the province.

In his speech, the Mr Siboniso Duma stated: “Let this inaugural LED Technical summit be not merely a summit; but a journey that envisions and crafts a new provincial economic narrative. A narrative that is turned into policy measures, tangible actions and confronts the challenges of underdevelopment, unemployment and income inequality that we face”.
