KWAMASHU YOUTH FILM AND MUSIC EXPO

The Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs through the Youth Directorate, in partnership with KZNFilm, EThekwini Municipality Youth Office, SA Guild of Actors (SAGA), KUMISA, CIPC, Uzalo Music Scorer/Compiler Prince Bulo, and Kwa-Mashu Community Advancement Projects (K-CAP), hosted a Women Youth in Film and Music information session in the INK area at KWAMASHU KCAPArts Centre, where K-CAP discovers, trains, and exposes the talent of young people with a passion for the creative arts.
The stakeholders empowered the youth and women on the industry requirements, challenges, opportunities, products, and services through the training and support available in their organisations. CIPC presented on copyright and related intellectual property rights for creatives in the music and film industries.
A seasoned actor, Jack Devnarain, the Chairperson of the SA Guild of Actors, addressed the youth, and in his speech, he highlighted the plights of actors in South Africa, the wealth of talent, and gaps in the industry that require stakeholders in the sector to come together to change the status quo in various categories like contract writing and more in order for them not to be exploited in the process of rendering their services through their talents.
