INNOBIZ DUT - EDTEA TECH HUB LAUNCH

Today, 25 July 2023, the Leader of Government Business and MEC for Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr. Siboniso Duma officially launched the Innobiz DUT Tech HUB at Durban University of Technology (Indumiso Campus PMB). This program was supported by the Youth Directorate under program 2.

 In 2021, EDTEA KZN and DUT signed an MOU where DUT was requested to run a business Incubation for KZN youth in the Agricultural and Technological sector. EDTEA injected an amount of R2 Million Rands for a comprehensive business Incubation programme which includes the purchase of equipment for both hubs. 30 youth entrepreneurs from various districts were recruited through a call that was made and were incubated in a one-year programme. The incubatees are coached, mentored and given support on an ongoing basis. The program has also been opened to Youth in Schools & unemployed youth.

The focus was on employment and business opportunities created for the targeted group, such activities demonstrate that the industry is alive in the province and should pave way for bigger activities that the province is planning for the industry.

In his speech, the MEC emphasized the importance of 4IR as a schooling system to create platform for a variety of required skills for economic Empowerment from academic, artisans to primary skills being related to 4IR.
