CONSUMER AWARENESS PROTECTION

Today, the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs Programme 04: Business Regulations partnered with EThekwini Municipality, the Department of labour, the Department of Home Affairs, NRCS, SARS, and ICASA after receiving numerous complaints about Durban China City stores in Springfield Park that have been ignoring the consumer protection laws.
Today's visit to Durban China City at Springfield Park is to enforce the laws and regulations that govern businesses in the country. This enforcement reminds companies to abide by the law. And also to create a safe environment for consumers.
The operation was a huge success; 19 businesses were inspected, which resulted in the closure of two businesses for failure to adhere to the health and safety regulations, and fines amounting to R8000.00 rand were issued. 21 people were arrested for being undocumented. Six notices were issued by the fire department, including one general notice to the Mall management. ICASA confiscated 15 two-way radios and one smart TV. The NRCS confiscated a number of electrical goods.
