2024 KWAZULU-NATAL WASTE TECHNICAL ENGAGEMENT

The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs hosted the 2024 KwaZulu-Natal Waste Technical Engagement under “Provincial Roadmap to Zero Waste to Landfill” at Coastlands Hotel Umhlanga. This engagement engages relevant stakeholders in and outside government to recognise the current waste diversion from the landfill initiatives and identify practical and effective waste recycling solutions for the Province.

The objectives of the Engagement are: to ensure sustainable landfill management; to expand waste recycling initiatives to include food waste, construction and demolition waste, e-waste and green jobs; to collectively draw up a Provincial Road Map for waste minimization and set realistic targets; to develop strong partnership between government, the private sector and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes; and to promote the integration of waste pickers (formal and informal) and municipal collection services.
