In 2013 KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs formulated the KwaZulu Economic Council, where the province became the first province to formally launch the Economic Council Forum in the country, which also led to the signing of a Social Accord.
The KwaZulu Natal Economic Council is an engine for developing partnership-based action plans aimed at building an economy that both generate wealth and transformation for all South Africans.
The Economic Council Forum comprises organised labour, the business sector, KZN Provincial Government and representatives of organised community based structures. On the 30th of November 2019 the Economic Council led by the MEC for EDTEA, Ms Dube-Ncube visited KwaSithebe industrial Area in Mandeni to engage with the Workers and Community.
